so that we should be to the praise of his glory - This is opposed to the idea that certain Jews would be praised for their glory and riches.

we who hoped before in Christ - The word used for "hoped before" in the Greek is proelpizō and mirrors the word protithēmi (See Eph. 1:9). It raises the question, hoped before what? The false teachers were waiting for the Christ in the Flesh to come in order to put their hope in him but Paul says that Christ already came in the flesh and we should put our hope in him before the Day of Destruction.
